As the number of websites selling products and services continues to grow at an astonishing rate, so does the confusion experienced by consumers. There are so many scare stories about the internet in general that online shoppers just don't know who they can and can't trust.

Websites that display the "Safer Shopping Approved" logo have been carefully inspected to ensure that they comply with our code of practice. When faced with a choice between several websites, it makes sense for the customer to purchase from one of the ones displaying the logo. In fact, research shows that sites bearing an accreditation logo can sell up to twice as much as those that don't.

1/07/07 - Two years old today!

Two years on, and we feel as though the Safer Shopping scheme is making a real difference for both the retailers that display the logo and for customers who choose to shop on approved sites.
We still reject more applications that we accept meaning that the number of customer disputes we've dealt with has been kept incredibly low. If we're not sure about a website, we won't include them in our scheme.

1/09/06 - Inviting New Applications

When the Safer Shopping scheme was launched last year, we made the decision to limit the number of member sites initially. After the initial batch of invitations were sent to retailers, the only new members to join have been companies that have approached us. Having established that the scheme is working as it should be and that the number of consumer disputes is very low, we are now ready to start inviting websites to join the scheme.

1/07/06 - Safer Shopping is 1 year old today!

Over the course of the past year, we've kept the number of approved retailers fairly small to make sure that we had all the correct systems in place. We are pleased to say that the scheme has been a great success and will now be expanded. Most pleasing of all is the tiny number of complaints we've received about Safer Shopping approved websites. Every single one of those disputes has been resolved amicably, and in most cases they've been simple misunderstandings (eg: post office not leaving a card when the customer has been out).
